Main market square of Krakow

The main square (Rynek Glówny) is the biggest medieval square in Europe. The heart of Krakow. The square is huge, you can walk around. Find the St. Mary's Basilica on the corner. Entry fee is 3 EUR, it is worth to go inside and see the wonderful wooden altar by Veit Stoss.

Center of the square is dominated by the Cloth Hall, which is a shopping mall from the medievals. Traders came and sold their stuff during centuries. Nowadays, the lower lever is a fantastic shopping area for local souvenirs made by amber, wood, wool, etc. The upper level is a museum.

On the other side of the Cloth Hall, find the Church of St. Adalbert from the 10th century and the Adam Mickiewitcz Monument. There is no Tower Hall, as it did not survived the centuries.

Wawel Castle, Krakow

How to get to Krakow?

From Budapest, there is regular daily flight by LOT to Krakow. Takes only 50min (plus time in/out airport). It is the fastest, but most expensive option.

Overnight train from Budapest to Krakow is avaiable daily. It is cheap but very slow option. You have to be lucky to take a 2-3 persons sleeping cabin as very limited numbers are available.

Coach became popular way to travel between Budapest and Krakow, thanks to cheap and regular coach service. It is cheap but not that fast (8 hours) and can travel only with limited luggage.
